Choosing between DTM, DT and DTP. Start with the DTM β€” size 20 contacts, 7.5 A per circuit, and it covers the majority of circuits in a typical harness: sensors, signals, CAN, switch inputs. Step up to the DT when the circuit needs more current or you're running heavier wire β€” size 16 contacts, 13 A, 14-20 AWG. Go to DTP for genuine power circuits β€” size 12 contacts, 25 A β€” fuel pumps, fans, main feeds. Most harnesses use all three, with DTM making up the bulk of the connector count.

The DTP uses the same wedgelock and solid contact system as the rest of the Deutsch family, so nothing about your build process changes. What you get is 25 A per circuit in a housing that seals and services exactly like the DT you already use β€” which is why it's the sensible choice for fuel pumps, fans, water pumps and main power feeds rather than reaching for a different connector system entirely.

Tooling. AF8 crimper with the TH1A turret. Contacts are size 12 solid machined, taking 12-14 AWG. You'll want a size 12 removal tool for service work.
